Google is set to introduce updated gambling advertising requirements on September 14, 2026, bringing stricter certification standards for advertisers using Google Ads. The changes will require gambling businesses to maintain a strong compliance record, with previous policy violations potentially affecting their ability to obtain or retain certification.
The updated framework will apply across gambling and gaming categories, including online casinos, sports betting, poker, lotteries, bingo and fantasy sports. For businesses running Google Ads betting campaigns or Google Ads casino promotions, licensing and documentation alone will no longer be enough to meet certification requirements.
Compliance history becomes a key factor
Under the new rules, Google will consider an advertiser's wider compliance history when reviewing certification applications. Companies with repeated violations or poor policy health could be denied new certification, while existing certification may also be revoked.
The changes are expected to affect operators, affiliates, agencies and other businesses involved in PPC betting and PPC casino advertising. Manager accounts, or MCCs, will also face greater scrutiny, particularly when they are linked to multiple accounts with repeated violations.
Google is also tightening domain eligibility requirements. Advertisers must demonstrate ownership and control of the domains used to promote gambling products, reducing the ability to rely on unrelated or third-party websites.
Stricter enforcement for gambling advertising
The updated approach places greater emphasis on long-term compliance rather than individual campaign violations. Businesses repeatedly failing to meet Google's policies could lose certification and, in serious cases, their ability to run gambling advertising through the platform.
For operators relying heavily on Google Ads betting or Google Ads casino campaigns, certification problems could affect customer acquisition and paid search visibility. Agencies managing PPC betting and PPC casino accounts will also need to monitor compliance across their client portfolios.
Domain controls and wider advertising impact
The revised domain requirements mean advertisers must clearly establish their relationship with the products and websites promoted through Google Ads. This could have a significant impact on affiliates and agencies that manage gambling campaigns across multiple domains.
The changes point to a broader focus on ongoing Google Ads gambling compliance rather than one-time certification. Businesses using PPC betting, PPC casino, Google Ads betting, or Google Ads casino will need to maintain accurate records and follow Google's gambling advertising requirements consistently.
